The Dickeyville Grotto

The Dickeyville Grotto is this amazing shrine built by Father Mathtias, just sitting in the middle of a small town called, Dickeyville, Wi. It is just right in the middle of town and the locals all go about about their business like this amazing building is not standing there. It's a must see, only a couple dollars to get in, even a little resale shop in the basement. But for paranormal hunters or anyone looking for something out of the norm to visit, this spectaular display of a building and shring built of rocks, stone, glass, shells and broken china, it's a must see!

PS In the back of this shrine is a cemetary. Father Matthias is buried in there.

A Little History
  • The Dickeyville Grotto and Shrines erected in the Village of Dickeyville, Wisconsin on Holy Ghost Parish grounds located at 305 W Main Street.
  • This shrine is the work of Father Matthias Wernerus, a Catholic Priest, Pastor of the Parish from 1918 to 1931.
  • Father Matthias  in stone, built from 1925-1930, is dedicated to the unity of two great American ideals-love of God and love of Country.
  • Father Matthais is buried in the cemetary right in back of this shrine he built.

The extra attraction to visiting this cemetary is that this is attached to the Dickeyville Grotto. A shrine made by Father Matthias Wernerus, a Catholic Priest, Pastor of the Parish from 1918 to 1931. It is handmade out of stones, shells, glass and many awesome trinkets like old china.
